Randy Hestir from Dewitt Arkansas scored on this huge 5x5 on his second consecutive year at camp. He was hunting at Camp 10 & was in the blind only 12 minutes when this buck chased a doe off the ridge directly in front of the blind. It was a short but rewarding hunt. Had this buck not broken approximately 1 1/2 inch off the left G-2 and the same off the left main beam he would have easily surpassed the 170” minimum for the all time B & C record book. As is he will net 168” and easily make B&C awards.
Main beams 24 7/8; inside spread 19 4/8 with 5 2/8 bases
G-1 6 1/8
G-2 12 2/8
G-3 11 2/8
G-4 5 4/8

Mike Shankle of Bossier City Louisiana was also on his second hunt with SBO when he scored on this awesome 6x6. He was hunting a stand called Lakeside North. He had already had an exciting morning when at 11:45 the action really picked up when a hot doe led the big boy out into the open. This buck was working on being a typical 7x7. He had the G-6 on one side though not long enough to be scoreable and the bump to match on the other side. After 3 7/8 inches of non-typical points and side-to-side deductions Mikes buck will still make the B&C awards with a net of 161 3/8
Main beams 25 2/8, inside spread 18 2/8 and 5 0/8 bases
G-1 5 6/8
G-2 8 1/8
G-3 8 6/8
G-4 7 1/8
G-5 4 6/8

Ron Baxter of Shreveport Louisiana was hunting during the first week of season, the first year that Andy owned South Bay Outfitters. He hunted a stand called Boundary 1. He hunted the blind on Monday, saw nothing and on Tuesday three does were seen. His third day was spent in another spot and on the fourth morning he wanted to return to Boundary. His patience was quickly rewarded. A small buck was feeding in the meadow below him when shortly after legal shooting time a much larger buck emerged from the timber and chased the younger buck off. Ron wasted no time putting this bruiser on the ground. While he will not net well thanks to a common base G-3 on the left side this is still a monster buck with tons of character.

Andy Milam took advantage of a rare opportunity during the third week of season. Despite Andy’s urging, return hunters in camp did not want to hunt the Boundary stand because the previous year, moose hunters had ruined the hunt 3 days in a row for one of their group. This combined with two hunters from Georgia not showing up for their hunt that week allowed this rare opportunity and Andy jumped on it. “ If you guys are not going to hunt there, I will” he said, and he was rewarded in short order. At 9:15 the feeder went off and not a deer had been sighted. 30 minutes later the first deer showed and he was a shooter. With no hesitation Andy ended his hunt with a monster 6x6. After deductions this bruiser easily makes B&C awards with a net of 164 ½ inches.
22 6/8 main beams, 18 1/8 inside spread and 4 6/8 bases.
G-1 5 0/8
G-2 9 3/8
G-3 9 3/8
G-4 9 0/8
G-5 5 6-8

Rusty Hestir’s Thanksgiving buck. On the 5th day of his first year of hunting with SBO Rusty hit the jackpot. This buck was the 9th of 12 bucks he saw that day before being picked up. The action had been hot all morning with bucks fighting and running all around him all morning when at high noon this bruiser stepped in to take over. Rusty wasted no time.

Gary Hart of Shreveport Louisiana was spending his second year in camp. He had taken a 150 class 5x5 his first year and was hoping to beat that this year. He spotted this high-racked monster on the first morning of his hunt. After that nothing else would do. While he was tempted several times he held out and on the fourth morning at 9:30 he was rewarded when the buck he was waiting on strolled across an opening in the brush below his stand.

Rusty Johns was into the action immediately. Before legal shooting time on the first morning of his hunt a huge buck passed within 5 yards of his stand. While he saw a lot of action that day he saw nothing to match that bruiser. He couldn’t wait to get back in the stand the next morning and this time the buck waited until after 9:00 to show. Two shots at 18 yards and the trophy was his. With a 21 ½ “ inside spread and 24” outside spread this is truly an impressive buck.

I took this buck in 2007, One of the few bucks we have taken in the afternoon.  I had booked very few hunters in '07 and took this buck at the end of the first week after a snowstorm really got the deer moving and I had no hunters in camp.
22 " main beams and over 6" brows really helped this buck but his unique rack is what I loved.

Pat Baird was spending his third year in camp and it was getting better each year. He was quickly rewarded on the second morning of his hunt when this rutting buck stepped out after tearing up the brush just out of sight. Pat quickly decided that the buck would look better on his wall than standing in the meadow and dropped him in his tracks.

Jeff Dougherty’s hunt was winding down and he just couldn’t quite find the right spot. Andy suggested he hunt a stand called Dude Ranch because another hunter had seen a nice 5x5 chasing a yearling doe the previous day. That hunter wanted to return to the stand he had hunted all week because of the number of deer he was seeing there. Jeff was reluctant but at the urging of his brother took Andy’s advice. By 1:00 he relayed via radio that he was wishing he had gone with his instincts rather than followed Andy’s advice. It was windy and snowing hard and there had been little action. At 3:00 that changed when three does stepped out with a huge buck in tow. Jeff took a shot at the buck but wasn’t sure if he had connected. Andy instructed him to stay in the stand and he would quad in and check for blood. “The deer are used to us quading in and it will not screw up your hunt this way” Andy said. After picking up the bucks tracks and confirming that the shot had missed Andy instructed Jeff to stay in the stand and see if the deer would show back up. The three does and the buck did show back up right as light was fading so Jeff would have to spend a restless night, hoping the buck would show up again tomorrow, the last day of the season.
The next morning was a cold one with the mercury dipping to -12 F. It took a lot of coaxing with blow dryers, heaters and tarps to get the quads going but Andy and head guide Bill Varga did manage to get the last two hunters out that morning.
At 11:00 Jeff’s buck once again trailed the does into the clearing and this time Jeff’s aim was true. The score does not do this buck justice due to an injury during the growing cycle, which prevented his main beams from finishing out. He traded 10” of main beams for a ton of character. Jeff’s buck was amazingly similar to the buck his brother had taken the previous year.

Steve Dougherty was hunting a buck that Andy had videoed on Monday December 1st. Andy had slipped into a stand called Stump after dropping his hunters off. He had been there less than 30 minutes when a buck came in to feed. Apparently the doe he was with was lying in the brush close by. After feeding about 20 minutes the doe stepped out and the pair eased off. Andy eased out of the blind in the opposite direction. The next morning Steve was in the blind but it would be four days before the bruiser returned. Steve was tempted many times, seeing 7 - 14 bucks a day at the hot spot. Finally on the fourth morning, Steve’s birthday, the buck returned hot on the trail of a sweet doe.

John Kyner from Pennsylvania was spending his first year in camp. He loved a stand called Rodeo and wanted to spend his entire hunt there. On the fourth day it was so windy that Andy would not let him start out there for fear of falling trees. He spent the morning in another stand wishing he was at Rodeo and as soon as the wind subsided was radioing camp wanting to move to his favorite stand. Andy obliged, and at 2:30 John’s instincts proved correct when this bruiser 5x5 stepped out.
