Black Bear Hunts
Our black bear hunts have been very successful. Bears are plentiful with many sows bearing twins and triplets each spring. Since 2001 we have only had one group of 3 hunters that left without shooting a bear. That group of 3 were rained on hard 3 days and the green-up had slowed down the bears coming to bait. They were picky and did not see a bear large enough to take, One of those was Steve Dougherty who hunted with me several more years and harvested a booner in spring 2005. We have taken many Pope and Young trophies with several being color phase.
Boo-Boo the camp bear showed up to greet each group of hunters during the 2005
season. Boo-Boo was 2 years old when this photo was taken.

Hunters are taken out in trucks to a trailhead where we quad into bait-sites. Each hunter is given a radio and bear mace. Typically we go out around 5PM and hunters get picked up around 10PM. This leaves lots of time for relaxing, shooting 3D targets or going fishing. Hunters are also taken out on morning hunts if they want at least once a week. Due to high gas prices we only throw in one morning hunt a week but if the hunters are willing to pay for the extra gas we will take them out on as many morning or mid-day hunts as they want We have had very good success with morning hunts. Bottom line, you can hunt as hard as you want or just relax and enjoy yourself. Either way it's quite likely you are going to get an opportunity at a bear.

We have a lot of nice color phase bears thanks to a management policy that is designed to allow most colored sows to live and breed and our boars to
survive to maturity befor being harvested.
